Texas College hosting ETBU

Texas College opens its home football slate on Saturday, hosting East Texas Baptist University at Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.

Kickoff is 2 p.m.

The Steers compete in the Central States Football League and fell last week to NCAA Division II Mississippi College, 61-6. Quarterback Curtez Griffin totaled 102 yards passing with a touchdown and rushed for 44 yards to lead the team.

This will be the first of two straight weeks on the road for ETBU, an NCAA Division III team that competes in the American Southwest Conference. The Tigers are coming off a 49-22 home loss to McMurry to start the 2015 season and will be playing for their first win against NAIA Texas College.

Against McMurry, ETBU scored all its points in the second quarter as well as a 116-yard, two-touchdown performance by running back Kendall Roberson. Defensively, David Jaynes recorded 1.5 sacks and C.J. Johnson led the team with nine tackles.



The Tigers travel to Georgetown on Sept. 19 to meet Southwestern in a 7 p.m. game.

The Steers play host to McMurry on Sept. 19 at TMF Rose Stadium. Kickoff is 2 p.m. Texas College is open on Sept. 26, but will meet Southwestern Assembles of God at noon on Oct. 3 in Tyler.
