Patrick Mahomes, of Whitehouse and the Kansas City Chiefs, named one of TIME’s Most Influential People of 2024

Born in Tyler and a graduate of Whitehouse High School, Patrick Mahomes has been named one of The World’s Most Influential People by TIME Magazine.

Mahomes is the quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs.

On Tuesday, TIME Magazine released the cover of its TIME 100’s April 29, 2024 issue, featuring a portrait of Mahomes. Mahomes posted the cover on his X, formerly known as Twitter, account, giving credit to the photographer, Joshua Kissi. The official X account of the Chiefs also posted the cover.

“Changing the game. Patrick Mahomes has been named one of @TIME’s Most Influential People of 2024,” the Chiefs said on X.

Every April, TIME names the year’s 100 most influential people, “celebrating the Artists, Innovators, Titans, Leaders, Icons and Pioneers whose contributions are changing the world,” according to the magazine’s website.

In TIME’s accompanying cover article written by Sean Gregory, Mahomes talks about his family, his latest world championship-winning season, his thoughts on the GOAT (“Greatest Of All Time”) discussion, Taylor Swift’s impact on the NFL, his love for Whataburger, comments on his “dad bod,” growing up with his father in Major League Baseball, and more.

Mahomes, 28, told TIME he has “had at least one of the top three starts to a career,” but he’s “nowhere near” earning the status of GOAT just yet, Gregory writes in the feature.

“… I’ve had a great run. I think I’ve done a great job so far. … That’s something I’ll talk about when I’m done playing,” Mahomes told TIME. “Then people can make those decisions.”

The honor also features a tribute to Mahomes from MLB World Series champion Alex Rodriguez.

Dua Lipa was also announced on Monday as one of TIME’s most influential people in 2024. The other two cover stars have not yet been revealed.
