Tyler Legacy was back on the practice field on Tuesday afternoon for spring workouts.
The Red Raiders will get 15 practices before closing things with the spring game on May 9.
“We are just excited to get out there and do some football again,” Tyler Legacy head football coach Beau Trahan said. “We had a great offseason. We are excited to really see all of the young guys compete and try to find some pieces we’re missing right now.”
Legacy is coming off of a 3-8 campaign and a trip to the playoffs. The Red Raiders’ fell to Wylie East, 23-14, in the opening round of the playoffs.
The Red Raiders return their entire offensive line, including Eric Miller and DeMarrion Brown-Johnson (6-7, 300), who started for Legacy last season as a freshman and has received offseason offers from Tennessee, Texas Tech, North Texas and Houston.
“We’re going to be young,” Trahan said. “We graduated eight on defense. We do have our whole offensive line back, our tight end is back. We have some young guys that have to step up. But just to get out here and see what we have to work with, see what guys are going to step up, it’s invaluable for us.”
Currently working at quarterback are rising sophomore Von Lane, Zach Davis, Victor Hogue and Luke Sylvester. Nolan Hable, who is a rising senior and is currently playing for the Red Raider baseball team, will also be in the mix. Lane received varsity experience for the Red Raiders in district play and in the postseason as a freshman. Davis will be a junior next season and was 126 of 198 for 2,347 yards and 27 touchdowns in leading Grace Community to a 9-2 record as a sophomore.
“We are really excited,” rising senior tight end JP Rainer said. “I feel the younger guys have stepped up a lot. This is building some chemistry (with receivers and quarterbacks), and we will play 7-on-7 this summer.”
Legacy will play in District 10-6A with Longview, Forney, North Forney, Rockwall, Rockwall-Heath and Royse City.
Legacy will begin the 2024 football season Aug. 29 at Texas High. Other non-district games for the Red Raiders are at Tyler, Marshall at home and at Crowley.
