CARROLLTON — Led by another gold medal from Lakesha Milton in the shot put, the Bishop Gorman Lady Crusaders took third at the TAPPS 4A North Region track and field meet Thursday at Prince of Peace High School.

The Bullard Brook Hill boys also placed third at the TAPPS 3A North Region meet also held at PoP on Thursday.

The top four in each event qualified for the state meet at Baylor’s Hart-Patterson Complex May 4-5.

The Midland Christian girls won the 4A meet with 200 points, followed by Arlington Grace Prep at 82 and Gorman at 63. Grace Community was seventh at 29 points.

Midland Christian also won the boys meet with 172.5 points. The Crusaders took sixth at 43, ahead of TAPPS 2-4A champion Grace, which took eighth at 32.

The Guard racked up 78 points, well behind Carrollton Prince of Peace’s 162 and Legacy Christian’s 102. The Lady Guard took ninth with 18 points. Colleyville Covenant Christian (134 points) win the girls 3A meet.

Milton threw 36 feet, 5 inches to win follow her TAPPS 2-4A-winning throw of 37-10¼.

The Lady Crusaders qualified two relay teams. Monica Maloney, Monica Hand, Karis Stephen and Maddie Raney took second in the 4×100 at 50.4 seconds while Raney, Hand, Stephen and Ashton Kemp took second in the 4×200 at 1:50.1.

Hannah Frossard ran a personal best (5:48) to place second in the mile while also taking fifth in the 800. Raney finished a tight 200-meter race in fourth at 26.1 to qualify for state. Raney also took fifth in the high jump.

Also scoring points for the Lady Crusaders were Ciara Andrews (sixth in 800) and Meridith Buzbee (fifth in pole vault).

The Cougars took the top two finishes in the 110-meter hurdles, with Kade Clayton (14.67) beating out teammate Keaton Yeatts (14.88). Clayton also took third in the 300 hurdles, in which Yeatts finished sixth. Yeatts took fourth in the high jump (6-0).

Grace’s boys took sixth in the 4×100 and 4×400 relays.

Grady Frazier led the Bishop Gorman boys with two golds, once again winning the mile and two mile. Caleb Williams took second in the 100 (11.01) for the Crusaders. Taking fourth to qualify for state were Jeremy Obach (800, 2:05) and Sam Becker (pole vault, 13-6).

All Saints qualified two runners in the 800: Jasmine Owens on the girls side and Taylor Ball on the boys side.

Grace’s Emma Yeatts qualified for state in the triple jump with a silver-medal performance. Mikaila Massenburge finished third in the 100 hurdles to qualify for state. Kirby Edwards also booked a trip to Waco with a fourth-place finish in pole vault.

Lady Cougars’ Whitney Bane scored points in the 100 and 200 with sixth-place finishes. Monica Lim was also sixth in the two-mile for Grace while Catherine Rook finished sixth in high jump.

Brook Hill’s Logan Walters won the shot put and the discus while Austin Langemeier took gold in the 1,600 and bronze in the 800. Langemeier also took third in high jump. Kirby Vinson won the girls discus for Brook Hill.

Qualifying for the Brook Hill boys were: Gunnar Dorsey (second, 100), Wade Karam (fourth, 400), Nick Cool (fourth, discus), Evan Hayes (third, pole vault) and the third-place 4×100 relay team. For the Lady Guard, Tyesha Jackson (third, shot put) qualified for state.

ETCA Sending Runners To State

ARGYLE — Courtney Craig qualified in three events to lead East Texas Christian Academy athletes at the TAPPS 1A North Region track and field meet Thursday at Argyle High School.

Craig won the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 3 ¾ inches, took fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.84 seconds and ran in the 4×400-meter relay team that took second.

The Lady Panthers finished sixth as a team while the Panthers took ninth on the strength of two relay teams.

The top four finishers in each event qualified for the TAPPS 1A state meet May 4-5 at Baylor’s Hart-Patterson Complex in Waco.

The group of Cody White, William Finley, Nick Neal and Cooper Vernon ran both the 4×100 (third at 48.14) and the 4×200 (fourth at 1:42.65) relays. That same foursome took fifth in the 4×400.

Joining Craig on the 4×400 team were Samantha Phillips, Amy Riggle and Lauren Smitherman. Phillips also qualified for state in the 400, taking second at 1:07.23.

Holly Zubro rounded out the Lady Panthers that qualified, taking fourth in the 3,200 with a time of 14:55.53.
