Last year’s champs at the Bruce G. Brookshire Classic are defending their titles voraciously.
Both the Bishop Gorman Lady Crusaders and the All Saints Trojans have more than doubled their opponents’ scores through two games to cruise into their respective championship games.
On Friday, Gorman crushed Van 64-26 and All Saints routed Ovilla Christian 81-34 at All Saints’ Bruce G. Brookshire Family Student Athletic Center.
The Lady Crusaders will play Austin Brentwood at noon (rescheduled from 3 p.m.) in a rematch of last year’s title game, a 55-47 final. The Trojans will take on Corsicana at 4:30 p.m.; the UIL Class 4A Tigers reached the final by dispatching Grace Community 63-55.
The third-place games will pit Van against Houston St. Thomas (girls) and Grace vs. Ovilla (boys). The Grace and All Saints girls will play each other at 9 a.m. in the seventh-place game while Bullard Brook Hill takes on Frisco Legacy in the boys seventh-place game.

The Trojans opened their season with an 84-38 victory over the Eagles and Friday’s matchup had a similar scoreline.
All Saints’ 6-3 freshman Luke Lee posted a game-high 22 points to go with six rebounds, tied for a team high with Brice Borgeson. Aston Francis added 16 for the Trojans, who had all 12 players score.
Though they finished with 81, the Trojans (8-3) had scored just two points midway through the first quarter. However, All Saints scored 14 points over the final 2:13 to take an early 20-8 lead.
In the second quarter, the Trojans found more success with their full-court press and forced 10 turnovers en route to a 46-19 halftime lead.
In the second half, All Saints coach Eddie Francis laid off the press and said he was pleased with the play of his role players like William Alexander, Matt Brunson, Trevor Long and Cameron Huckabee.
“I saw some things tonight from some role players that really impressed me,” Francis said. “Their work ethic, they executed and they hit shots, which is something that will help us once we get to district.”
Trojans senior Ruben DeLong was credited with the basket of the night early in the third quarter. With DeLong fighting for a rebound under the All Saints basket, the ball was slapped off the court and bounced up and back down through the hoop.
Griffin Glenn, a 5-9 junior, led the Eagles (3-5) with 11 points and five rebounds.
The Trojans out-rebounded Ovilla 38-22 and won the turnover battle 26-15.
Aston Francis turned in a game-best five steals to go with five rebounds while shooting 6 for 11 from the field. Spencer Ball came off the bench to dish out a game-high five assists.
“Our goal every day is to get better,” Francis said. “It doesn’t matter right now who we’re playing; just to work hard and get better.
“I thought they did that tonight, evidenced by the second half … our subs played better than they’ve been playing. That’s the progress I want to see each game.”
Corsicana 63, Grace Community 54
Mike Lewis hit for 25 points and Corsicana used a big third quarter to hold off Grace Community and prevent the Cougars from a rematch against All Saints in the Brookshire Classic final.
The Tigers led by 3 at halftime but outscored the Cougars 15-3 after the break to take a 45-30 lead into the final frame.
Trevor Gunter led Grace (5-2) with 17 points.
Bishop Gorman 64, Van 26
Trailing 4-0 two minutes into the game, the Lady Crusaders received a spark similar to the one that jettisoned them to a big win on Thursday.
Gorman junior Brooke Lee connected on 3 of 4 from long range in the first quarter as the Lady Crusaders shrugged off a clumsy start for another lopsided victory.
Lee, a starter who came off the bench last year, scored the game’s first eight points in Gorman’s 76-25 win over Frisco Legacy.
“She’s definitely stepped up this year,” BG coach Katie Robertson said. “I expect a lot from her. She’s a leader on the court.”
Up 9-6 midway through the first quarter, Lee hit two 3-pointers in 10 seconds to quickly boost Gorman to a 15-6 advantage. She knocked down one more trey with 1:16 to go for Gorman’s first double-digit lead and from there the Lady Crusaders never lost control.
Michelle Obach poured in 24 points on 9 of 12 shooting to once again pace the Lady Crusaders (7-2). Lee finished with 14 points, Susannah Williams had 12 points and five boards and Danielle Smith tallied eight points, five rebounds and five steals.
Hallee Carter led the Lady Vandals (6-1) with 12 points and Bri Thompson added eight points and five steals.
Van is coached by Toby Mitchell, who was an assistant coach at Brownsboro when Robertson was playing for the Bearrettes.
“He’s like my second dad,” Robertson said of Mitchell. “Their assistant coach, I played with her in high school. We’re real close. It’s always hard playing people you’re that close to and he’s been a mentor for me. A lot of what I’m doing is what he’s taught me, so give credit for that.
“His girls played hard. He’s done a great job with them.”
