Palestine shocks Athens, 28-20

PALESTINE — Brian Gummelt threw for two touchdowns and rushed for the game-winner as the Palestine Wildcats surprised the Athens Hornets 28-20 in non-district action Friday.
Gummelt ran in for a 2-yard touchdown with 1:09 remaining to put Palestine up for good.
Athens took a 21-20 lead on a 60-yard touchdown pass from Anthony Sanders to Kendall Sanders.
Athens (3-2) took a 6-0 lead early in the first quarter on a 65-yard run by Kendall Sanders.
The Wildcats (3-2) finished the quarter with a 7-6 lead after Gummelt hit Paul Barksdale on a 35-yard scoring pass with nine seconds left.
Athens went back ahead 13-7 in the second quarter, scoring on a 10-yard run by Sanders.
Palestine came out in the second half and scored two unanswered touchdowns, one on a 39-yard Gummelt to Nicco Barnard touchdown pass and the other on a 59-yard pass from Darrius Stephens to Corey Koif to lead 21-13.
