MINEOLA — Mineola’s Yellow Jackets got as hot as the on-field temperature of 100-plus in the second quarter to romp to an easy 51-14 victory over Quinlan Ford’s Panthers in a season opener for both teams Friday night.

The winners capitalized on Panther miscues in the second half behind a hard-nosed defense for 22 points to go with their 29 first-half tally.

Jacket Dac Shaw racked up 136 yards on 15 carries and two touchdowns. He was stellar all night on defense — even getting a tackle for a safety. Quarterback Eric Galaz scored three times, picked up 72 yards rushing and 48 yards passing for Mineola. Mason Welch and JaQuan Williams also scored for the winners.

James Silkey scored both Quinlan TDs, one a 51-yard burst and picked up 99 yards on 10 carries. Jacket kicker Matt Shade kept the visiting Panther offense bottled up all night with kickoffs into the end zone.
