BULLARD – Bullard Brook Hill’s Jared Dickey unleashed a booming hit against a Lake Worth player on the opening kickoff, earning a raucous roar from the home crowd. 

The Guard was ready to get the season started. 

Travis Pirtle passed for 268 yards and two touchdowns to lead Brook Hill past Lake Worth, 31-13, in the final game of the Fall Football Classic on Saturday night at Herrington Field. 

Pirtle’s damage came mostly in the second half as the Guard pulled away. The performance also included physical defense and special teams play, resulting in a positive start to the season after Brook Hill reached the TAPPS state finals the past two years. 

Brook Hill’s Austin Langemeier caught five passes for 121 yards, plus threw for a touchdown on a receiver pass. Garrett Moore added four receptions for 64 yards and two touchdowns, while Gunnar Dorsey ran 19 times for 74 yards and a TD.  

Brook Hill took a 14-0 lead into the locker room after scoring with less than three minutes left in the first half. The Guard got its second touchdown on a trick play, on which Pirtle threw a lateral to Langemeier and the receiver found Michael Greening wide open downfield for a 66-yard touchdown with 2:47 to go. 

Brook Hill’s first touchdown came on its first series, when Dorsey capped a nine-play, 67-yard drive with a 5-yard run with 5:50 left in the opening quarter. 

The Guard limited Lake Worth to only 63 total yards in the first half, plus stopped the Bull Frogs short of the marker on four fourth-down conversion attempts.
