GLADEWATER — The Gladewater Bears looked to be facing a tie with less than a minute left in the third quarter. However, a blocked field goal and a 12-play, 85-yard drive proved to be too much as the Bears defeated Canton 27-7 at Jack V. Murphy-Bear Stadium.

Canton moved the ball to the Bear 2-yard line before the Bear defense stiffened and blocked the Eagles’ field-goal attempt.

The Bears went back to the ground attack that Coach Murphy would have been proud of. The Bears rushed 10 times for 50 yards on the drive, with the big play when Derrick Daniels connected with Nick Johnson for a 35-yard pass play. Daniels finished the drive off with a 1-yard run to push the Gladewater lead to 21-7.

Gladewater’s Daedrian Gordon intercepted a Canton pass and returned it to the Bear 48.

The Bears worked the ground game again with an 11-play scoring drive capped by a Darion Gregory touchdown for the final score.
