JEFFERSON — Deion Williams continued to punish District 9-2A Division I defenses, carrying 21 times for 164 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Jefferson Bulldogs to a 35-30 win over the White Oak Roughnecks.
Williams, who rushed for 238 yards and four touchdowns on just 10 carries a week ago against Sabine, scored on runs of 37 and 51 yards against the Roughnecks Friday. The 51-yard jaunt proved to be the game-winner.
White Oak took a 3-0 lead in the first period on a 30-yard field goal by Ethan Land, but Jefferson quarterback Bailey Fratangelo capped a 67-yard drive with a 1-yard run to put the Bulldogs in front.
After White Oak quarterback Caleb Carr sprinted 75 yards for a touchdown to move the Roughnecks back on top, Turahn Mitchell and Williams scored in the second frame to give Jefferson a 21-10 halftime lead.
In the third, Carr hit Darion Barr for a 22-yard scoring pass, but Fratangelo countered with an 8-yard scoring strike to Devonte Singleton.
Carr’s 51-yard touchdown pass to Hayden Nichols late in the third kept the Roughnecks close, but Williams broke off his 51-yard touchdown run with 41 seconds left in the period for a 35-24 Bulldog lead.
Carr’s 10-yard pass to Ian Story with 4:57 to play capped the scoring.
White Oak (3-4, 1-1) will host Sabine next Friday while Jefferson (4-3, 2-0) visits Harmony.
