Grace Community had little trouble with Dallas First Baptist on Friday night, defeating the Saints 48-3 at Clyde-Perkins Stadium.

Grace’s defense forced a three-and-out on the Saints’ first possession and wasted no time finding success.

Quarterback Blake White connected with receiver Garrett Newman on a crossing route, which Newman turned up the far sideline and turned into a 76-yard touchdown on the Cougars’ first play from scrimmage.

Again, Grace’s defense allowed the Saints no refuge forcing another punt on their next opportunity.  

The scoring drive took longer this time for the Cougars, but the result was the same as Micah Florey sprinted 41 yards for the second Grace TD with 7:18 left in the first quarter.

Grace’s defensive backs came away with three interceptions on three consecutive drives to stop the Saints from marching in.

Grace stalled and punted on its first post-interception possession, but scored on a 44-yard White-to-Lin Gillham pass and another White pass of 32 yards to Grant Childress.

Newman again struck for a 76-yard TD, this time a run with 2:53 remaining in the half to give the Cougars a 35-0 advantage going into halftime.

The second half started with a bang for the Cougars similar to the first half as Childress fielded the kickoff and sprinted 90 yards for the TD to put Grace up 42-0.

Grace (5-2) will resume district play next week, traveling to Dallas Parish Episcopal.
