The UT Tyler basketball squads split a doubleheader with Hendrix College Saturday on Alumni Weekend at the Herrington Patriot Center.

In the first game, the Patriot women won 98-57, while the men fell 71-63.

The teams open American Southwest Conference play Saturday in Clarksville, Ark., against Oxarks. The Patriots return home Dec. 4 against UT Dallas.

Women

Four Patriots scored in double-digits, including Brittany King who led the way with 18 points and seven rebounds.

UT Tyler (2-1) jumped out to a 25-12 lead over Hendrix (1-3) in the first nine minutes of play, and never looked back.

The Patriots led by as many as 23 points in the first half, before the Warriors were able to cut the lead to 46-32 at the half.

In the second, UT Tyler turned up the pressure, outscoring the Warriors 52-25 in the second frame, taking the game 98-57.

UT Tyler dominated the game in the paint, scoring 48 points to the Warriors 18, while also scoring 18 second-chance points to Hendrix five.

Teylor Seals added 16 points, while freshman Madison Wilson poured in 12 points off the bench.

Senior point guard Danai Woods finished with 11 points, four assists and three rebounds.

Men

Byron Randle scored 15 points off the bench to lead the Patriots.

After the team battled to a 13-13 tie at the 11:52 mark, Hendrix (3-1) went on a stunning 23-7 run to close out the first half, taking a 36-20 lead at the half.

In the first 20 minutes, the Patriots (1-1) shot just 20-percent (6-30) from the field, while the Warriors shot 48-percent.

UT Tyler was able to claw back in the second half, but could not close the deficit to more than five points the rest of the way.

Tyler Hysell close the gap to 48-43 with 9:59 remaining in regulation, but Hendrix was able to hold off the Patriots, the remainder of the game, winning 71-63.

Point guard Bryce Kemp joined Randle in double-digits, scoring 13 points on the night to go along with two assists and two rebounds.

The Patriots’ bench was active in the game, scoring 30 total points in the loss.

Both teams were almost even in the rebounding department, with Hendrix taking the 37-36 lead in that department.
