East Texans are invited to “dance away domestic violence” this weekend in downtown Tyler.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and to celebrate, the East Texas Crisis Center is holding the “Dance Away Domestic Violence” event to bring awareness and education about domestic violence and the services provided by the crisis center, according to a news release.
The dance will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the T.B. Butler Fountain Plaza, across from the courthouse.
There will be professional dancers, an amateur dance contest, a DJ, vendors, and activities for the children.
Organizers of the event aim to unite survivors of domestic abuse and provide a safe environment for building self-esteem through positive physical expression. The program will promote healing and empowerment through movement that will support efforts to rebuild lives.
The dance is sponsored by Tyler Beverage, Kona Ice and Cindy’s Balloon’s.
