JACKSONVILLE — Gilmer Buckeyes quarterback Tanner Barr went on the warpath against the Jacksonville Indians Friday night, heaving four first-half touchdown tosses and hot-footing for another TD as number two ranked Gilmer jangled Jacksonville at their homecoming, 60-20 at the Tomato Bowl.

Gilmer racked up a 47-7 lead at twirling time, and game officials started letting the clock run virtually non-stop soon into the third quarter.

The Class 3A Buckeyes, who trailed early 7-0, ascended to 3-0 while Class 4A Jacksonville dropped to 0-3.

After irking the Indians by going 13 for 17 for 266 yards in the first half, Barr finished the evening 15 of 19 for 291 yards passing. His main partner in the aerial acumen was Jaidon Parrish, who snared seven for 128 yards and a TD. Barr distributed his scoring slings among four receivers.

After each team came up empty on their opening possessions (Gilmer doing so for the only time all night), the hosts hopped ahead on quarterback Carter McCown’s 1-yard keeper up the middle. Ryan Travis airlifted the first of two PATs with 8:19 left in the first quarter.

The Buckeyes would then score on their next seven possessions before the bands blared.

Barr tied things up with a 21-yard TD to Desmond Pollard with 6:55 left in the first period. Kicker Pablin Olivares nailed the first of four successful PATs. Then Barr barreled 11 yards for another score with 4:14 left in the first before Jamal Jackson hoofed 11 yards himself for another TD with 1:30 left in the quarter.

Jackson also made a jaunt for 2 points, leaving it 22-7 at first quarter’s end. Gilmer poured it on in the second quarter as Barr rifled TDs of 20 yards to Parrish, 23 to Quinn Fluellen and 40 to Chase Tate before Devondrick Dixon whipped 3 yards into Beulah land.

In the third period, Gilmer’s Kris Boyd bopped 32 yards into Beulah land, making it 54-7 before the Indians finally tallied again on a 31-yard long distance pitch to Claude Franklin.

Ahead 54-14, Gilmer kept going with Demarco Boyd bounding for a 62-yards TD.

Jacksonville concluded the point-making on Braylon Parish’s 2 yard trek and the PAT kick was blocked on the contests’ final play.
