The University of Texas at Tyler tied for 22nd among public universities in the western United States, according to the 2014U.S. News and World Report America’s Best Colleges survey.

That ranking is up seven places from the previous one, which showed the university tied for 29th among public universities, according to a UT Tyler news release.

The report bases rankings on graduation and retention rates, peer assessment, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving, according to the news release.

UT Tyler improved in several categories including assessment among peer institutions and graduate rate.

The peer assessment score was the highest among the Texas public universities listed in the survey and the student-to-faculty ratio was the best, according to the news release.

“We are excited to see UT Tyler once again ranked among the best universities in the western United States,” President Dr. Rod Mabry said, according to the news release. “We rank higher this year, and we can attribute that to the amazing work of our faculty and staff who strive to make this the quality university that it is.”
