TJC baseball, softball teams take 3 wins

It was a good day for the TJC baseball and softball teams on Wednesday.

The Apache Ladies swept Kilgore College in a Region XIV softball doubleheader on the Tyler Junior College campus, while a few miles to the east the Apaches defeated Bossier Parish in a single baseball game at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Mike Carter Field.



Tyler won the softball games, 10-2 in six innings, and 12-0 in five innings.

TJC won the baseball game, 13-3 in five innings.

SOFTBALL

The Apache Ladies go to 25-15 overall and 6-6 in Region XIV. The Lady Rangers fall to 2-30 and 0-12.

In the first game, TJC scored three runs in the first inning and seven in the sixth. KC scored two in the third.

Jordyn De Los Santos belted a home run and drove in four runs to lead Tyler.

Kearston Gooch was in the circle, going six innings while giving up six hits and two runs with five strikeouts and a walk.

Berlyn Grossman, Daniela Gutierrez and Kaetlyn Mendez all hit doubles for the Apache Ladies.

De Los Santos added a single, along with Jolie Bazan and Kaliyah Matthews.

Other RBIs were from Grossman (2), Bazan (1), Matthews (2) and Gutierrez (1).

Brilie Cornelison had a double and single for the Lady Rangers with singles by Hailey Shubin (2), Kortlyn Goodson (1) and Koletta Galvan (1).

Shubin drove in both runs.

In the second game, Tyler scored six runs in both the first and third innings.

Grossman and Matthews each had three hits, while Mendez belted a home run.

Grossman, Bazan and Jenna Rosson hit doubles.

Bazan and Rosson had two hits apiece with Gutierrez and Trinity Hawkins adding hits.

RBIs were from Mendez (2), Matthews (2), Gutierrez (2), Grossman (1), De Los Santos (1), Parker Rhoden (1) and Hawkins (1).

Makenzie Bohannon and Brielee Ashcraft combined on a four-hitter. Bohannon was in the circle for four innings (3 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts), followed by Ashcraft (1 inning, 1 hit, 0 runs, 2 walks, 1 strikeout).

Koryn Klimczak, Shubin and Cornelison had singles for KC.

Paris, Bossier Parish and Trinity Valley all tied for first place in Region XIV’s North Division with records of 10-2. They are followed by TJC (6-6), Navarro (3-8), Northeast Texas (2-9) and Kilgore (0-12).

Galveston leads the South Division at 8-2, followed by San Jacinto (9-3), Alvin (5-3), Blinn (7-5), Lamar State-Port Arthur (3-5), Angelina (3-7) and Coastal Bend (1-11).

The Apache Ladies return to play on Saturday, traveling to Athens to meet Trinity Valley in a doubleheader. The first game is slated to begin at 1 p.m., followed by the second game at 3:30 p.m.

The Lady Rangers are scheduled to host Paris on Saturday at 1 and 3:30 p.m.

BASEBALL

The Apaches improve to 29-9 overall and 13-6 in Region XIV’s North Division, while the Cavaliers fall to 18-17 and 7-12.

Finn Kaiyala hit a three-run homer and had a two-run double to pace the Apaches with five RBIs.

Rene Galvan added a solo shot and a single with two doubles from Troy Johnson. Other doubles were from Levi Risenhoover and Zack Zavala.

Dalton Wilson and Tyler Ness added singles.

Joining Kaiyala in the RBI department were Johnson (2), Ness (2), Zavala (2), Galvan (1), Wilson (1),

Danny Valadez (6-1) and Cade Daniell combined on the six-hitter. Valadez pitched five innings, allowing five hits and three runs with two walks and a strikeout. Daniell hurled the final inning, allowing one hit with one walk and one strikeout.

Hayden Stringfellow had a solo home run for the Cavaliers. Parker Gwyn and Luke Bogan each had two hits. Nikko Khananisho had one hit and an RBI.

Navarro leads the North Division at 14-4, followed by TJC (13-6), Northeast Texas (11-8), Panola (7-11), Paris (6-10), Bossier Parish (7-12) and Angelina (4-11).

In the South Division, Blinn and San Jacinto are tied for first at 14-4, followed by Galveston (11-7), Wharton County (8-10), Alvin (4-14) and Coastal Bend (3-15).

The teams play again on Saturday in Tyler with the first game of the doubleheader set to begin at noon. The second game is set for 3 p.m.
