Frisco-based NewcrestImage broke ground Tuesday on a new 124-room Residence Inn by Marriott at 350 Heritage Drive.

Jagdish Patel, vice president of operations said construction of the hotel, on a nearly 3-acre lot, will take up to a year and they are targeting summer 2014 to open.

Supreme Bright Tyler LLC, a subsidiary of NewcrestImmage, is the owner of the project and filed a building permit with the city of Tyler for “clearing and grubbing” for construction of a four-story hotel and parking improvements.

When the hotel opens, Tyler could have two Residence Inn by Marriott hotels.

Tricia Noyes, general manager of the Residence Inn by Marriott Tyler, at 3303 Troup Highway, said the hotel will not be closing when the second Residence Inn goes up. The Residence Inn built in on Troup Highway in 1985 is owned by Pinnacle Hotel Management, based in Royal Palm Beach, Fla.

VME Process is doing interior and exterior renovations to its 8,352-square-foot office building, at 3733 Shiloh Road, for $500,000. Riley Harris Construction LP is the contractor.

David Tomaino, of Grapevine, filed a building permit for a new tenant improvement for Simply Mac at a 2,547-square-foot space at 4919 S. Broadway Ave., the former Hallmark Card Store in Broadway Market Center. The $70,000 project includes demolishing partitions and fixtures and new construction.

Tyler Independent School District is replacing windows at the Caldwell gymnasium, 300 S. College Ave., for $39,000. WRL General Contractors is the contractor.

First Bank & Trust of East Texas filed a grading permit to clear weeds and bushes for a required survey at 3980 McDonald Road.

Qwik-Bike Inc. filed a temporary-use permit for a children’s benefit held Saturday at 4545 Old Jacksonville Highway.
