‘Cupcake ATM’ opens in Dallas

WFAA DALLAS — Just call it an Automatic Treat Machine.

A “Cupcake ATM” is opening Friday next door to the Sprinkles Cupcakes in Preston Center, giving customers a 24-hour-a-day frosting fix.

The pink machine holds 350 fresh cupcakes, and is restocked day and night. With a swipe of a credit card, a robotic arm grabs an individually-boxed cupcake in the flavor of your choice for $4.00, including tax. If your dog has had a particularly rough day of sitting on the couch, the cupcake ATM even has baked treats for the pooch in you life.

“I conceived the idea of an automatic cupcake machine after having late-night sugar cravings while pregnant with my second son,” said Candace Nelson, founder of Sprinkles Cupcakes in a press release. “Even as Sprinkles’ founder, I couldn’t get my midnight cupcake fix. I thought ‘there has to be a way’ and so the concept of the Sprinkles Cupcake ATM was born.”

To celebrate the machine’s arrival, Sprinkles is hiding 19 golden tickets in Friday’s cupcake boxes, each one good for a dozen cupcakes. Beginning July 20 and until the spin-off Sprinkles Ice Cream opens next door in mid-August, one cupcake ATM customer each day will find a golden ticket good for a $50 Sprinkles Ice Cream gift card.

The best part: no ATM fees!
