Softball Notebook: Bullard’s Kenzi Roberts, Troup’s Taylor Gillispie take weekly honors

Bullard’s Kenzi Roberts and Troup’s Taylor Gillispie have earned Tyler Morning Telegraph Softball Player of the Week honors for games played March 17-22.
Roberts is the Hitter of the Week, and Gillispie is the Pitcher of the Week.
Roberts was 6-for-7 (.857) with a home run, a triple, two doubles, seven RBIs, a walk and a stolen base as the Lady Panthers picked up two wins over Hudson (8-1 and 14-1).
Gillispie allowed no earned runs, while striking out 25 batters in 9.1 innings in wins over West Rusk.
In a 20-0 victory on Tuesday, Gillispie threw a one-hit shutout with 14 strikeouts and one walk in five innings.
In a 15-4 victory on Friday, Gillispie came in relief and pitched 4.1 innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits with 11 strikeouts and no walks, picking up her second win of the week.
The previous week, in wins over Gladewater, Gillispie hit .800 with four home runs and eight RBIs, and she had two pitching wins with 16 strikeouts and a 0.84 ERA in eight innings.
In other outstanding performances in the area last week (nominated by coaches):
PITCHING
Bullard junior Brooklyn Brannen went 2-0, posting a 0.70 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 10 innings.
Arp’s Addison Carpenter pitched five innings, posting a 4.20 ERA and picking up a win in a 17-3 victory over White Oak.
Alto junior Lacey Stephenson had 17 strikeouts, allowing two hits and one unearned run with no walks in seven innings in a 4-1 win over Cushing.
HITTING
Arp’s Addison Carpenter went 5-for-7 (.714) with a double, four RBIs, six runs and two walks.
Troup’s MaKayla Spencer went 6-for-8 (.750) with three doubles and five RBIs.
Mineola’s Kali Chrietzberg went 3-for-6 (.500) with a home run. Her two-run home run came in the seventh inning of a 10-8 loss to Grand Saline. Mahayla McMahon hit .667 with a home run and a triple. She had a solo homer in the top of the first inning against Grand Saline.
Grand Saline senior catcher Aubree Kindle hit .857 with six hits, including a double and an RBI. Senior shortstop Alissa Fugate hit .625 with five hits, including two home runs, a double and five RBIs. During the previous week, Fugate hit .750 with five RBIs and two stolen bases. Freshman Madi Fugate hit .667 with three RBIs and four stolen bases. McKennah Davis hit .600 with four RBIs. Kindle hit .500 with a triple, a double and two RBIs and struck out eight batters with no earned runs allowed to go 2-0 as a pitcher. Gracie Jo Currey hit .500 with a double, two RBIs and a stolen base.
