Grace’s Taylor, Gorman’s Guzman earn all-district soccer superlative honors

A veteran defender from Grace Community and a young midfielder from Bishop Gorman earned superlatives on the TAPPS D-II District 2 boys soccer all-district team.
Cougars senior Geoffrey Taylor was named the Defensive Player of the Year after leading the district’s top defense.

Crusaders freshman Martin Guzman was named Newcomer of the Year after his first-year performance in the Gorman midfield.
Taylor’s coach, Tom Alden, was named Co-Coach of the Year along with Dallas Parish Episcopal’s Craig Savage.
Cole Bitting, a sophomore forward from Carrollton Prince of Peace, was named the league’s Most Valuable Player. Senior striker Hunter Prater earned Offensive Player of the Year honors.
Grace’s Reid Dollahite, who tallied 20 goals and 14 assists on the year, joined Prater and Bitting on the first-team offense. Also on the first team for the Cougars were senior midfielder David Fraga (seven goals, four assists), junior midfielder Jordan Dyess (10 goals, two assists) and Taylor.
Gorman senior midfielder Tyler Lamance and junior defender Luke Ryder were named to the first team. Fellow Crusaders Kurtis Kemper (senior forward), Jose Valle (junior defender) and Guzman earned second-team honors.
All Saints freshman defender Elias Kasue was named to the second team along with Grace junior midfielder Kendrick Wong (13 goals, 15 assists), senior defender Zak Collum and senior goalie Marc Ritthaler (10 shutouts).

The Trojans placed two players on the honorable mention list: Ellis Gentry (senior forward) and James Siedel (freshman goalie). Calvin Flowers (senior forward), Luis Vasquez (junior forward), Ryan Ruiz (senior defender) and Kaleb Behm (junior goalie) earned honorable mention from Gorman. They were joined by Grace’s Ty Hunter (freshman forward), Derrick Wong (freshman midfielder) and Tate Miller (sophomore defender).
