The Apaches had 20-20 vision on Saturday.

Not only did Tyler Junior College shoot well, but the squad notched its 20th win of the season.

Point guard Anthony Odunsi hit for 20 points and added six steals to power the Apaches to a 90-73 win over Bossier Parish Community College in a Region XIV basketball game at Wagstaff Gymnasium.

Odunsi was also clutch at the free-throw line, sinking 10 of 12 attempts.

Ta’Jon Welcome continued his hot streak for TJC, netting 18 points, while Dale Jones came off the bench for 17 points.

Winslo Barry had nine rebounds and two blocks, while Jones had six boards.

The Apaches (20-7, 11-6 Region XIV) were without backup point guard Todd Eaglin, who was serving as a pallbearer in his cousin’s funeral in New Orleans.

TJC coach Mike Marquis was pleased with his team’s play in Eaglin’s absence. His squad had also battled a virus this week.

“There were a lot of great individual performances especially playing without Todd and we had some illness,” Marquis said. “I was really worried Thursday night … I wasn’t sure if we were even going to dress seven or eight. The guys overcame some of their sickness.”

Marquis noted DeAndre Harris, normally a shooting guard, sacrificed his offensive production to play some point guard minutes. He still had eight points.

TJC connected on six slam dunks — two by Sharife Sargeant and one each from Harris, Welcome, John Alexander and Barry.

The Apaches led by as much as 33 points, 74-41, in the second half before the Cavaliers (9-17, 2-15) started launching 3s.

For the game, the Cavs were 9 of 27 from long distance. But their leading scorer was post Lyndale James with 21 points. They whittled the lead to 14 at one point.

The Apaches were 7 of 22 from 3-point land.

“I thought we were really good on offense,” Marquis said. “To Bossier’s credit they did not give up. … They hit a lot of threes in the second half which this late in the year is hard to do when you are down 30.

“They fought back and played tough. I thought we made some good decisions late and made our free throws. Overall, I was really, really pleased with our 20th victory. Our theme all week after Paris was 20 by Sunday and we got there.”
