FRISCO — Top-ranked Bryan Allen Academy bounced King’s Academy from the TCAL 2A state playoffs with an 82-48 win in the state quarterfinals at Fieldhouse USA on Thursday.
The Royal Knights stayed close in the first quarter before the Rams made a run in the second quarter to begin pulling away.
“We knew they were going to make a run and our offensive game plan was to slow the game down,” King’s Academy coach Dodie Wilson said. “But once they got it going, they were tough to stop.”
Junior 6-7 post Judd Horton scored a game-high 25 points, including two dunks for the Rams (28-10). Sophomore guard Jake Georgiades added 21 and senior point guard Mike Homann added 19 for Allen Academy, who advance to today’s semifinals against Waco Live Oak Classical.
“(King’s Academy) ran their stuff well and kept it competitive in the first half,” said Rams coach Dave Bliss, a former Baylor head coach. “I was really impressed with how hard they played all the way to the end of the game.”
Caleb Sherrod poured in 20 points to pace the Royal Knights (11-9), who take on Greenville Phoenix Charter in a consolation game today at 10 a.m.
“Allen’s everything that’s advertised,” Wilson said. “They play good, fundamental basketball for four quarters. I was pleased with our hustle all game. Our kids played four quarters of heartfelt basketball and that’s all we can ask.”
