HS Hoops Roundup, Jan. 11: Thompson, David lift Lady Raiders
Published 11:15 pm Friday, January 11, 2013
ROCKWALL — Robert E. Lee closed out the first half of district play with a much-needed 51-30 win Friday over Rockwall-Heath.
DaJah Thompson and Emem David imposed their will in the paint with Thompson leading all players with 18 points and David finishing in double figures with 10 points.
“Both Emem and DaJah dominated the boards tonight,” said Lee coach Lloyd Mahaffey. “I wouldn’t be surprised if they both had double-doubles. Really, the whole team played well.”
The victory gave Lee (12-15, 2-4) its second District 12-5A win as it reached the midway point. Rockwall-Heath dropped to 7-14 and 0-6.
Lee trailed 11-8 after the first period and held a slim two-point advantage at halftime.
“We made some adjustments at halftime and the kids responded to it and we worked the inside game really well in the third quarter and it paid off for us,” Mahaffey said. “We slowed things down and ran our half-court offense more. We suited up only seven players because of injuries and we were able to overcome that.”
