UT Tyler women win, men fall to UMHB

The UT Tyler women got back on the winning track, scoring a 72-59 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor in an American Southwest Conference basketball game on Saturday at the Herrington Patriot Center.
Senior Lauren Glasco was stellar, registering her first double-double of the season, finishing with 18 points and 11 boards.
UT Tyler (9-4, 4-3) took control from the get-go, taking a 42-24 lead at the end of the first half.
The second half was much of the same, with the Patriots going up by as many as 23 points with 10:23 left, after a Glasco layup.
UMHB (2-10, 1-6) would not go away easily, fighting back to get within 13 points.
Four Patriots finished in double-digit scoring, including Breann McMillan (15 points), She’Cara Humphrey (11) and Oliva Burns (11).
UMHB’s Taylor Tucker was the leading scorer in the game, hitting 19 points to go with eight rebounds.
The Patriots travel to Clarksville, Ark., on Thursday to meet Ozarks. The game is scheduled to tip off at 5:30 p.m.

UT Tyler men drop second straight
UT Tyler dropped its second straight American Southwest Conference men’s basketball game, a close 75-71 decision to Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday at the Herrington Patriot Center.
Senior Darren Houliston almost pulled off a double-double for the Patriots with 18 points and nine rebounds.
UT Tyler fell to 10-3 on the season and 5-2 in ASC play. The Patriots still lead the ASC East Division by a half game over UT Dallas (5-3). The Cru improved to 10-3 overall and 6-1 in league play. UMHB is in the West Division and tied with Concordia and Hardin-Simmons for first place.
The Patriots trailed by as many as 13 points in the second half before cutting the deficit to one, 67-66, with just under a minute to play on 3-pointer by Joe Stephens. However, the Cru’s Thomas Orr hit a trey with 30 seconds on the clock to put the visitors back up 70-66.
Later, Jordan Cannon, who finished the game with 12 points, hit a fade-away 3-pointer with just eight seconds remaining to get the Patriots within one again, 72-71, but the Cru hit three of their final four free throw attempts to win by four, 75-71.
Travis Dykman was also in double figures for the Patriots with 12 points. Orr and Brian Todd led the Cru with 18 points apiece, while Kitrick Bell had 17 points and 13 rebounds.
The Patriots were 8 of 10 from the free throw line, while Mary Hardin-Baylor was 20 of 28.
UT Tyler begins competition against fellow East Division teams on Thursday, traveling to Clarksville, Ark., to meet the Ozarks. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m.
