Tyler’s downtown square was filled with locals and visitors in their best cowboy boots and jeans Saturday for the 10th annual Red Dirt BBQ & Music Festival.
“It’s great to see so many people on the square, eating barbecue and listening to some great music,” said Radio Texas, LIVE! host Buddy Logan. “We’ve been so proud to be able to do this for 10 years because … a lot of festivals aren’t successful enough to stick around for this long.”
In a sold-out event, organizers said an estimated 7,000 people attended the festival.
This year’s festival was presented by Patterson Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Hyundai Volkswagen.
Produced by 101.5 KNUE and Radio Texas, LIVE! with Buddy Logan, the annual festival is held on the brick streets of the square to celebrate Texas barbecue and red dirt country music. The event gathers top pit-masters from the state and draws attendees from all across the country.
In addition to more than 20 barbecue joints, festivalgoers also enjoyed food from other vendors, as well beverages.
“Thanks to the support of people here in East Texas, the businesses around the square and so many great people who have worked with us through the last 10 years, we’ve been able to build something that’s been successful for so long,” Logan said. “It’s exciting to have it be a part of Tyler and a part of downtown.”
Though the forecast called for heavy rain and storms on the day of the Red Dirt Festival, thousands of attendees enjoyed a mostly cloudy day with some sunshine in the mid-80s to low-90s.
Pony Bradshaw kicked off the music festival, followed by Treaty Oak Revival, Mark Chestnutt, Kolby Cooper and Casey Donahew.
Closing out the show was headliner Randy Rogers Band, who returned to the festival for a third time, kicking off festivities in 2014 and headlining in 2019.
