MESQUITE — Robert E. Lee led Mesquite 5-4 entering the bottom of the fifth inning when the wheels came off and the Skeeters took advantage to win 13-5 Tuesday in their District 12-5A game at Mesquite Softball Complex.

REL committed six errors, four of which occurred in the costly fifth inning. The Lady Raiders finished with nine hits overall, led by Brittany Hogge, who went 4 for 4.

Lee coach Darren Pool said his team had opportunities to put the game away before the fifth but left runners in scoring position.

“We had our chances,” Pool said. “Makenna (Aycock) continues to put up great performances on the mound and defensively we have to find a way to help her out.”

The loss dropped REL to 7-8-1 overall and 1-2 in district while Mesquite moved to 3-1 in league play. The Lady Raiders will next face Longview at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Faulkner Park.
