TJC to celebrate use of alternative fuels, advanced technology vehicles

Tyler Junior College will celebrate the use of alternative fuels and advanced technology vehicles during its National Alternative Fuel Vehicle Day Odyssey event.

Scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Skills Training Center on the TJC West Campus, 1530 SSW Loop 323, Odyssey is one of many events being held across the U.S. and internationally.

The TJC Odyssey event will have alternative-fuel vehicles on hand to see and drive, including the Chevrolet Volt, Hyundai Sonata hybrid and many others.

Speakers include: Jamal Moharer, president of NDMJ Limited Transportation and First Alt. Fuel, Inc., TJC faculty and other local individuals involved with alternative-fuel technology.

Local event sponsors are Allen Samuels Hyundai and First Alt. Fuel Inc. Participants include Crown Kia, Crown Volkswagen, City of Tyler and others.



National AFV Day Odyssey is a biennial event created and coordinated by the National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium (NAFTC) at West Virginia University. This is the 12th annual AFV Day Odyssey event and this year’s theme is “Driving toward a clean, secure energy future.”

“We are pleased to join Odyssey 2014,” said David Briscoe, TJC professor of automotive technology. “With our event, we will share the message of embracing alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles with our community, continuing down the road toward energy independence.”

Nationwide, Odyssey plans to attract more than 250,000 attendees at 100 sites across the country and to reach more than 100 million people through media coverage and support.
