MAKER: MP Industries Inc.

BACKGROUND: Monroe Mirsky and Phil Phelps began the business in Tyler in 1976, offering tools used in the production and transportation of oil. Customers span the United States and Canada. The company has sales representatives in California, Colorado, Illinois, Michigan, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Canada.

PRODUCTS: MP Industries provides oil field molded rubber products. Packer elements and seals are produced from exacting rubber compounds and by using cutting edge molding methods, according to www.mpioiltool.com.

Through the years, the business has advanced dramatically with technology. When Mirskey first started, molding machines used were from the 1800s but now equipment is state-of-the-art and computer-controlled, he said earlier.

The rubber compounds must be able to stand a large number of hostile environments and produce the desired isolation in oil wells without being able to see the performance.

The company makes replacement packer elements, seals, drag springs and “O” rings to fit most packers, bridge plugs and tubing anchors. MP Industries offers sucker rod guides produced from rubber formulation and a spring steel insert designed to save tubing and rods. The rod guides hold tight and stay in place in temperatures of 300 degrees or higher. The company also offers replacement stripper rubbers.
