For the second time this week, a local grocery store chain has received a bomb threat, authorities confirmed.
Two Brookshire’s locations were evacuated Friday due to what the Tyler Police Department said was a bomb threat sent via email to the stores.
The affected locations include East Fifth Street and Rice Road. Tyler Police Spokesperson Andy Erbaugh said both locations have been cleared and reopened to the public as of 2 p.m.
Officers and firefighters arrived at the scene Friday afternoon to conduct a thorough sweep of both stores.
No materials were found and both stores were cleared as of 2 p.m., Erbaugh said. No one was injured and there was no major threat to the public, but authorities have to treat all threats seriously to protect the community.
This is the second time a bomb threat was reported at a Brookshire’s store in Tyler this week. On Wednesday, Brookshire’s confirmed an investigation was underway after its Roseland Boulevard location in the Bergfeld Center received a bomb threat.
“Brookshire Grocery Company can confirm that two of our Brookshire’s locations in Tyler received bomb threats today,” the company said in a statement Friday afternoon. “Our store leadership teams reacted immediately to notify local law enforcement and evacuate the buildings. There were no materials found and we are working with state and federal officials on the investigation.
“We are so thankful for our leaders and local heroes who reacted swiftly to make sure our stores are safe. BGC’s number one priority is the health and safety of our employee-partners and customers.”
The threats will be investigated by the fire marshal’s office.
