Another bomb threat was reported at a local grocery store chain over the weekend.
The Brookshire’s located in Bullard received a threat Sunday, officials from Brookshire Grocery Company and the Bullard Police Department confirmed Monday. This is the fourth threat received at a Brookshire’s inside Smith County in less than a week.
Bullard Police Department and Bullard Fire Department personnel responded to the call around 11:50 a.m. Sunday morning at the Bullard store, located at 213 U.S. Highway 69 North. The report said an “improvised explosive device” was in the building,” according to Bullard police.
Officers conducted a thorough search of the store but no devices were located, according to Bullard Police Chief Jeff Bragg.
Brookshire’s management decided to resume normal business operation after the scene was cleared and deemed safe by police and fire.
Three Tyler stores received the same threat last week — one Wednesday and two more Friday.
“Brookshire Grocery Company can confirm that several of our Brookshire’s locations … have received bomb threats,” BGC said in an updated statement Monday afternoon. “We reacted immediately to notify local law enforcement. After thoroughly searching each targeted store, no explosive or suspicious materials were found.”
The local grocery store chain said it believes these threats are all a hoax.
“We are continuing to work with state and federal officials on the searching and investigating each threat and will actively pursue prosecution,” the statement read. “We are so thankful for our leaders and local heroes who reacted swiftly to make sure our stores are safe. BGC’s number one priority is the health and safety of our employee-partners and customers.”
Bragg said an investigation is being conducted by local law enforcement agencies as well as federal agencies.
Other news agencies have reported these threats happening at Brookshire’s locations beyond Smith County, including one in Clifton that was received Monday, according to KWTX. Another was reported Sunday in Denton County, according to the Wise County Messenger, and a Brownwood store also received the same threat Sunday, according to the Brownwood News. No materials were found at any of the locations. The Brownwood News reported the threats had been emailed to stores in Albany, Bridgeport, and the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
A threat was also received in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, according to the Arkadelphian.
More information will be reported as it is made available.
