Girls Soccer Notebook: Lindale’s Brooke Gissell takes weekly honor

Lindale’s Brooke Gissell has earned Tyler Morning Telegraph Girls Soccer Player of the Week honors for games played Feb. 24-March 1.
Gissell, a sophomore, had five goals and three assists on the week.
She had a hat trick and scored the game-winning goal in double overtime and also assisted another goal in a 4-3 win over Athens.
Gissell had two goals and two assists in a 7-0 victory over Cumberland Academy.
In other outstanding performances in the area last week (nominated by coaches):
Grace Community junior Kate Herod scored the lone goal in the Lady Cougars’ 1-0 regional victory over Grapevine Faith to send the reigning state champions to the state final four for the second straight year.
Whitehouse’s Micah Lindsay scored all three goals in the past two games, including both goals of a 2-0 win over Nacogdoches.
Bullard freshman Addison Cooksey had seven assists in wins over Van (6-0) and Grand Saline (8-0). She is third in the district with 17 assists. Defender Conleigh Waldrop has been a standout for the Lady Panthers.
Chapel Hill freshman Maite Esquivel was a standout in an expanded role in a 2-0 win over Athens.
Brownsboro freshman Paige Whiddon had five goals and an assists. Sophomore Zoey Hinton had two goals and three assists.
Palestine midfielder Azucena Garcia had a goal and an assist in each game of wins over Crockett and Hudson.
In the Lethal Soccer State Rankings Bullard is No. 8, Sulphur Springs No. 10, Kilgore No. 18 and Palestine No. 25 Class 4A.
East Texas teams ranked in the Texas Girls Coaches Association rankings are Jacksonville No. 12 in 5A; and Bullard No. 5, Kilgore No. 14 and Sulphur Springs No. 19 in 4A.
