Tennis: Bishop Gorman sending school record nine to state tournament

The Bishop Gorman tennis team is taking a school record number of netters to the state tournament.

Gorman qualified nine players for the TAPPS State Tennis Tournament on April 8-9 in Waco.



The Crusaders not only won the district tennis tournament but also took gold in two events, silver in two events and bronze in one.

The doubles team of Zach Sheehy and Anthony Petrakian will be making their third consecutive trip to the state tournament after capturing first place in district.

BG teammates Gabe Schuricht and Aidan Boyne finished runner-up and took the silver. The top three places in district qualify for state.

Taking gold in girls doubles were Caroline Cruz and Mary-Helen Schuricht. They won over teammates Mia Monaghan and Hannah Finningan who claimed the silver.

Aniston Guy took the bronze by placing third in girls singles.

Tracey Giorgio and Lindsey Stroud are the tennis coaches for Gorman.

A couple of Bullard Brook Hill teams finished third (Daniel Gragg-Andrew Gragg) and fourth (Jared Johnson-Jonathan Humphries) in boys doubles. 

In girls doubles, Becky Jing and Natalie Garrett of Dallas Christian placed third with Grace Community’s Anna Gates and Katie Morris placing fourth.

In boys singles, Brook Hill’s Miguel Medina was first and teammate Tagen Parma was runner-up. Carrollton Prince of Peace’s Leon XU was third and Dallas Christian’s Luke Forester placed fourth.

In girls singles, Prince of Peace’s Madison Engels captured first with Dallas Christian’s Mo Owot runner-up. Placing fourth was Grace Community’s Kinley Kizer.
