TJC Baseball: No. 1 Apaches down Joliet

Four TJC pitchers limited Joliet (Illinois) to five hits as the No. 1 Apaches defeated the Wolves 8-1 on Thursday at Mike Carter Field.

The two teams decided to add another game and they will play again on Friday beginning at 1 p.m.

Mason Higginbotham (1-0) was the starter for Tyler Junior College, going three innings while allowing three hits, no runs and one walk with four strikeouts. He was followed by Michael Spinozzi (1 inning, 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks, 2 strikeouts), Tanner McNamara (2 innings, 1 hit, 1 run, 1 walks, 0 strikeouts) and Sean Beasley (1 inning, 0 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, 2 strikeouts).

Michael Morissette, Jason Bellew and Ty Meissner each had two hits for the Apaches. Both Bellew and Meissner had doubles. Others with hits were Bryce Coveney, Jacob Johnson, Erik Owen, Ben Cegelski and Seth Ballenger.

RBIs for TJC (20-5) were from Coveney, Morissette, Bellew, Cegelski, Cade Watson and Ballenger. Scoring runs were Meissner (2), Morissette (1), Johnson (1), Jaren Burks (1), Bellew (1), Owen (1) and Ballenger (1).



James Patock had two doubles and an RBI for the Wolves (1-6). Coliani Martinez had two singles with Ryan Anderson adding a single and scoring Joliet’s run.

TJC will have a weekend series with North Arkansas at Mike Carter Field. A doubleheader is set for Saturday with the first game slated to start at 5 p.m. On Sunday, a noon game is scheduled.
