TJC Baseball: Joliet ends Texas trip with win over No. 1 Apaches

Joliet (Illinois) Junior College scored two runs in the top of the 10th and then held off TJC to score an 8-7 win in their final game in a Texas swing on Friday at Mike Carter Field.

The Wolves notched the victory after falling to Tyler Junior College in the first four games. JCC, which was visiting Tyler and Texas in Coach Wayne King’s 33rd and final season. King’s Joliet teams won two national titles when the NJCAA Division III College World Series was held in Tyler.



Zachary Lauras led the Wolves (2-6) with two singles and two RBIs. Others with singles were Ryan Anderson, Noah Hibler, Cody Phillips, Nick Airola, Coliani Martinez and Matt Duske. Driving in runs were Martinez (2), Phillips (1), Airola (1), Duske (1) and Brock Bolser (1).

Scoring runs for Joliet were Jackson Stulas (3), Phillips (2), Anderson (1), Hibler (1) and Martinez (1).

The Apaches were hurt by seven errors.

Miguel Vega had a two-run homer for the Apaches, while Heath Hood had three hits, including two doubles, an RBI and a run scored.

Tyler Griffin added a double and RBI with Fiver Trimble hitting two singles. Ty Meissner also had a single and an RBI.

Others scoring runs were Michael Morrissette (2), Kendall Price (1), Jason Bellew (1) and Erik Owen (1).

The Apaches will now play a three-game set with North Arkansas this weekend at Mike Carter Field. A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday with the first game slated to begin at 5 p.m. A single game is slated for Sunday beginning at noon.
