Former longtime Jacksonville resident, A. Christine Carlson Corley, passed away peacefully in Tyler on Saturday, April 27, 2019, after a short illness. Chris was predeceased by her husband, Doyle Corley, as well as her daughter, Pam Joy Corley, sisters Emma Carlson and Beatrice Santos, and brother Fred Carlson. She was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, on October 16, 1924, the fourth child of Gustave and Jennie Anderson, both immigrants from Sweden. She completed high school in Springfield and worked for Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company. She married Doyle Corley in 1945, upon his return from overseas duty in the Army Air Corps in WWII. They moved to Corpus Christi after the war, then Dallas, where they had two daughters, and the family moved to Jacksonville in 1963. Chris was an active member of First United Methodist Church and the church choir, a member of Alpha Omega Sunday School class, United Methodist Women, Jacksonville Garden Club, HAPY Girls Club, Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, and Wednesday Study Club. She retired after enjoying 21 years as the office secretary at East Side School. She was a charter member of the Nan Travis Hospital auxiliary and a volunteer at Love’s Lookout Park. She is survived by daughter Kathy Mooring and husband Gary, granddaughters Jamie Byrd and husband Diego Ruiz-Diaz and Janice and her husband. She also had three great-grandchildren and a nephew, Paul Weathersby. She was loved very much by her family. Chris enjoyed traveling, and she reunited with her family members in Sweden several times during her life. She enjoyed meeting many cousins and their children, and they always welcomed her “home” when she visited Sweden. A graveside service for Mrs. Corley is scheduled at 10 o’clock in the morning Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at Resthaven Cemetery in Jacksonville. Bro. Lester Foreman will officiate. Services are under the direction of Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund.
