Rhinos hold off TimberHogs, 8-4

TEXARKANA — Jackson Glymph homered, doubled and drove in three runs, Gabriel Natividad added three hits and an RBI and the Texarkana Rhinos held on for an 8-4 win over the Piney Woods TimberHogs on Thursday in Mid America League action.



The Rhinos moved to 17-22 on the season while the TimberHogs dropped to 18-22. Texarkana trailed 2-0 early, but took control with a pair of three-run innings.

Ian Guanzon and Rylan Evans added two hits apiece for the Rhinos, and Evans and Yuto Mimura drove in runs.

Seishou Uchikoshi and Karsten Fidler both doubled in the loss for Piney Woods. Cermodrick Bland added two RBI. A.J. Smith and Juan Murillo singled and drove in runs, and Gabriel Flores and Noah Paddie chipped in with hits.

Mason Sellers (3-3) worked six innings on the mound for Texarkana to earn the win. He struck out three, walked six and allowed two earned runs. Chance Reed got the save, his first, with three innings of action. He fanned four, walked two and allowed a couple of earned runs.

Carson Blakeley (0-1) took the loss for the TimberHogs. He struck out five, walked one and gave up six earned runs in 4.2 innings. Trent McGee fanned three and walked three in 2.1 scoreless innings, and Jake Johnson struck out three, walked one and gave up one unearned run in an inning of action.

The TimberHogs visit Texarkana for a 7:05 p.m. contest on Saturday, and then return home to host the Rhinos at 6:05 p.m. on Sunday.

After a couple of days off, the TimberHogs visit Sherman for games on Wednesday and Thursday, and then host Fort Smith at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 3:35 and 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, July 20 and 6:05 p.m. on Sunday, July 21.
