About Texas A&T: The program started in 2008 as Southeast Prep Academy and it is the first “Post Grad Program” in the Southeast Region of the United States. The school said it is the only post grad program to play a true JUCO schedule and has successfully placed more than 150 student athletes in junior colleges and colleges. … Wooten took over the program in August and has more than 17 years of coaching experiences on the high school, college and pro-level. A Houston native, he attended college at Cisco College and finished his degree at the University of Phoenix. Wooten led the Iowa Barnstormers of the Indoor Football League to their first league championship in 23 years in 2018 and was awarded Coach of the Year for the second straight season. … The Drillers have lost to Blinn College (62-7) and Cisco College (56-7).
About TJC: After a defensive matchup with Trinity Valley (18-14 loss), the Apahes were in a scoring duel with Navarro last week, finally falling 42-37. … David Johnson, a sophomore from Dallas, continues to get most of the snaps at quarterback. He scored his first touchdown rushing for the Apaches against the Bulldogs. He has connected on 68 of 120 pass attempts for 898 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions. Colby Kizzee, a freshman from Conroe, saw action against Navarro in a couple of series as signal caller. He was 2 for 4 for 27 yards, while rushing three times for 23 yards. … Trenton Kennedy almost became the first 100-yard rusher for TJC this season, gaining 98 yards against Navarro. On the season the sophomore from Cypress has gained 204 yards and scored two TDs on 37 attempts. Drue Jackson, a freshman wide receiver from Garland Sachse, has caught 16 balls for 275 yards. … Punter Ryan Harwell (6-1, 190, Soph., Houston) is averaging 40.2 yards per kick, with eight balls placed inside the 20. … Linebacker Chris Sanders (6-2, 240, Soph., Austin) leads the Apaches with an average of 9.8 tackles per game. He also has 2.5 sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss, along with two pass breakups and a forced fumble. … DL Kevin Victorian (6-3, 250, Soph., Lake Charles, Louisiana) leads with 4.5 tackles for loss with DL Marquise Conchola (6-3, 260, Soph., College Station) adding 4.0 TFL.
Did you know: The Apaches finally get to play a home game on the Earl Campbell Field turf. However, it is one at home and back on the road as TJC travels to Roswell, New Mexico next Saturday to face New Mexico Military.
