CORSICANA — TJC was hoping to end their four-game road adventure to begin the season with a win, but the Apaches came up short, falling to Navarro College 42-37 on Saturday in a wild game at Tiger Stadium.

TJC falls to 1-3 on the season and 1-2 in Southwest Junior College Football Conference play. The Bulldogs won their first game to improve to 1-3 and 1-2.

TJC quarterback David Johnson threw for 362 yards and scored on a 10-yard TD, but four trips into the red zone garnered two missed field goal attempts and two turnover on downs.

Johnson was 26 of 43 passing attempts.

Trenton Kennedy led the Apaches in rushing with 98 yards and a 4-yard TD on 15 carries.

Navarro QB Parker McNeil, who missed last week’s game with an injury rib, hit on 25 of 31 attempts for 402 yards and six TD passes.

Drue Jackson had nine catches for 144 yards for the Apaches.

Navarro took a 28-13 halftime on McNeil’s three TD passes and a 48-yard TD run by Robinson.

TJC had a 10-0 first-quarter lead but could not capitalize on seven trips in to the red zone. Actually, the Apaches had a TD (4-yard run by Kennedy) and two field goals by Yovannie Garcia. However, they missed two field goal attempts and came up empty two other times.

Others scoring TDs for the Apaches were K’Vonte Jackson (2-yard run) and Kevon Thompson (6-yard run). In the second half, Garcia made a 35-yard field goal.

The Apaches finally play a home game Saturday, Sept. 21 against Texas A&T. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Earl Campbell Field at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium. Navarro plays at Cisco on Saturday.
