TYLER — Services for Troy V. Smith, 84, of Tyler, will be held on Tuesday, July 9, at 11:00 at the First Christian Church in Tyler, with Rev. Dr. Chris Pulliam officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Jackson’s Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home.
Troy passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024.
Troy was born July 27, 1939 in Austin, Texas to Kelley and Edith Smith.
Troy graduated from Texas Christian University with a degree in Government, he attended Southern Methodist University where he earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence. After graduating law school Troy served in the US Army on active duty in combat as an officer with an Airborne Corps in the Dominican Republic during the Dominican Crises. Troy continued serving his country as an officer in the Reserves. Troy became an Assistant District Attorney, in Smith County, and was the first Director and Attorney for the Child Support Enforcement Unit. In 1983 child support enforcement was moved to the Office of the Attorney General, and Troy became an Assistant Attorney General and continued to manage the Tyler Division. Troy served as an Assistant Attorney General for over 42 years and retired as the Regional Special Litigator with emphasis on Bankruptcy, License Suspensions and complex legal matters. Troy enjoyed teaching Sunday School, and singing in the Choir. He loved his cats, the TCU Horned Frogs and Bluebell ice cream.
Troy is survived by his brother Dane (Rebecca).
Pallbearers will be Darrell Atwood, Larry Martin, Saleh Jabr, Karl Pottkotter, Glen Elliott, and King Crawford.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Hospice of East Texas Foundation.
