The Cedar Hill Trinity Christian Tigers rolled to a 56-7 win over Grace Community on Friday night.

In what may be their last visit to Clyde-Perkins Stadium in some time, the Tigers led by 35 points at the half on the way to their eighth win of the year against only one loss.

Earlier this week, Trinity Christian’s administration announced that the Tigers will be leaving TAPPS after this season, a decision many think will lead to Trinity Christian playing an independent schedule.

TC-Cedar Hill was led by junior quarterback Shedeur Sanders, son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, the team’s offensive coordinator. The Tigers have won the last two TAPPS Division II state football championships.

Shedeur Sanders had three touchdown passes before the first quarter was half over. He found senior Amiri Crowder wide open twice, once on a 47-yard post route and a second time in the flat for a 33-yard catch and run. Charles Thompson Jr. had a touchdown reception at the 6:14 mark, and Cameron Wilson caught an eight-yard screen pass to push the Tigers’ lead to 28-0 by the end of the quarter.

The Tigers kept the pressure on in the second quarter, scoring with only 20 seconds gone on a 27-yard pass to Rod Weaver Jr. After the Tigers recovered an onside kick, Sanders connected on his sixth touchdown pass of the half, a 20-yarder to Thompson.

Grace senior tailback Jeremiah Milton got the Cougars on the board with 4:36 left in the half, fighting his way into the end zone from seven yards out. Hamilton Williams added the extra point to make the halftime score 42-7.

Cougar defensive back Luke Smith made a diving interception early in the third quarter to give Grace good field position in Tiger territory. The Grace momentum was quickly stifled when senior captain Josh Glenney, the center and anchor of the Cougar offensive line, went down with an apparent season ending injury. TC-Cedar Hill recovered a fumble and scored four plays later on a 33-yard run by Desmond Moultrie.

On the last play of the third quarter, Sanders hit speedster Wilson in the flat and he sprinted 49 yards for a touchdown to make the final score 56-7.

The Tigers’ record improves to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in TAPPS Division II, District 2. They will host the Brook Hill Guard next week.

Grace drops to 5-4 on the season and 1-2 in district. The Cougars will travel to Mesquite next Friday night to face Dallas Christian.
