As far as District 7-5A Division I goes, McKinney North, Mesquite Poteet and John Tyler have clinched playoff berths. That leaves Sherman, Texarkana Texas High and West Mesquite vying for the final bid.

Last week’s results in 7-5A Division I: Mesquite Poteet 37, John Tyler 14; Sherman 56, West Mesquite 27; Texas High 40, Wylie East 13; McKinney North, bye.

This week’s games on Friday have John Tyler (3-6, 3-3) at Sherman (5-4, 2-3); McKinney North (8-1, 5-0) vs. Mesquite Poteet (5-4, 4-1) at Mesquite Memorial Stadium; and West Mesquite (2-7, 2-3) at Texas High (5-4, 2-3). Kickoffs are set for 7 p.m. Wylie East (2-8, 0-6) has a bye and concluded its season last week.

According to Dave Campbell’s TexasFootball.com in conjunction with Jerry Forrest at PigskinPrep.com, Sherman is favored by 5 over JT; McKinney North is favored by 1 over Mesquite Poteet and Texas High is favored by 7 over West Mesquite.

The district computer rankings by TexasFootball.com include: 19, McKinney North; 26, Mesquite Poteet; 41, Sherman; 44, John Tyler; 52, Texas High; 60, West Mesquite; and 102, Wylie East.

Week 11 scenarios: Sherman needs to win by 11 or more to guarantee a playoff berth. Texas High earns a playoff berth with a win and if Sherman doesn’t beat JT by more than 11 or more. West Mesquite advances with a win and a Sherman loss. If JT beats Sherman, the Lions are third. If they lose they could be fourth.

District Title: The winner of McKinney North and Mesquite Poteet wins the league championship and the No. 1 seed. The loser is the No. 2 seed.

OFFENSE

McKinney North, just as it has all season, still tops the league in offense by averaging 593.0 yards per game. They are followed by Poteet (396.9), Texas High (376.4), Sherman (347.7), John Tyler (345.9), West Mesquite (344.7) and Wylie East (247.9).

In the scoring department, McKinney North leads at 54.3 points per game. The Bulldogs are followed by Mesquite Poteet (32.9), Sherman (29.7), Texas High (27.2), West Mesquite (27.1), JT (19.9) and Wylie East (18.1).

In rushing, McKinney North’s Manny Fincher (6-0, 200, Sr.) tops the district with 1,454 yards and 18 TDs on 205 carries. Senior Tracy Cooper of Texas High is next with 1,210 yards and nine touchdowns on 191 attempts. Rounding out the top five are Sherman senior Mike Brown (163-966, 10 TDs), Poteet senior and Oklahoma commit Seth McGowan (82-874, 10 TDs) and JT’s Kitan Crawford, a Texas commit, with 870 yards and nine TDs on 94 carries.

In the passing department, McKinney North senior Dillon Markiewicz (6-5, 230, Sr.) has thrown for 3,050 yards and 34 touchdowns with three interceptions. He has a 72% completion rate as he has connected on 164 of 226 passing attempts.

Following Markiewicz are West Mesquite sophomore Kevin Jennings (149-249, 1,907 yards, 19 TDs, 7 INTs), Sherman junior Tate Bethel (126-214, 1,644 yards, 14 TDs, 4 INTs), Wylie East junior Cade Adamson (119-240, 1,391 yards, 10 TDs, 6 INTs) and Poteet junior Jaylond Police (80-167, 1,090 yards, 12 TDs, 4 INTs).

McKinney North junior JJ Henry (5-11, 170, Jr.) leads in receiving with 55 receptions for 1,077 yards and 12 touchdowns. He is followed by West Mesquite senior Ty Jordan, who is a Texas commit, with 47 catches for 474 yards and four TDs. Other top receivers include: Sherman junior Benji Omayebu (40-482, 4 TDs), McKinney North senior Noah Ford (39-634, 9 TDs) and Wylie East senior Xavier Smith (38-575, 5 TDs).

DEFENSE

Texas High tops the league in points allowed at 23.3 per game. The Tigers are followed by Sherman (25.2), Poteet (25.2), JT (28.6), McKinney North (38.0), West Mesquite (42.7) and Wylie East (43.3).

In yardage, Texas High leads by allowing 291.3 yards per game. The Tigers are followed by Poteet (338.6), Sherman (339.2), JT (351.9), West Mesquite (352.9), Wylie East (453.0) and McKinney North (474.1).

John Tyler is No. 1 in interceptions with 10 while McKinney North, Sherman and Mesquite Poteet have seven each. JT, Poteet and West Mesquite all have recovered nine fumbles. Crawford and teammate Travion Ates lead the league with three interceptions each, along with Texas High’s Caleb Arnold, West Mesquite’s Jay Wynn and Sherman’s Aaron Ingram and Gage Smith.

JT’s Isaiah Johnson has two picks, along with McKinney North’s RJ Bendert and Charles Grogan and Poteet’s Jeremiah Anukem and Jalen Hodo.

PUNTING/KICKING

Texas High junior Rian Cellers is back atop the punting (37.0), followed by JT senior Miguel Munoz (35.2) and Sherman freshman Gerald Clark (34.8).

McKinney North’s Tyler Huettel has booted seven field goals, followed by JT senior Victor Leon with six. Huettel has kicked 56 PATs. Second is Jose Nandin of Sherman with 36.

JV/FRESHMEN
