April 27: Mount Pleasant’s Jerry Scoggins performs as one of the Cass County Boys

Jerry Scoggins 

Mount Pleasant native Jerry Scoggins along with John Dodson and Fred Martin performed as the Cass County Boys in the 1930s to 1950s.

 They sang on Gene Autry’s “Melody Ranch” radio program and western movies. On this date in 1949, The Cass County Boys were seen in the movie “Tucson.”

 Scoggins also sang the catchy theme song of “The Beverly Hillbillies.”
