June 21; Kemp’s Marijohn Wilkin touches lives with ‘One Day at a Time’ in 1975

Marijohn Wilkin 

Kemp native Marijohn Wilkin wrote hits in pop, country and gospel genres. 

 She wrote the inspirational song “One Day at a Time” with Kris Kristofferson. The song asks for strength from Jesus to endure life’s day-to-day challenges. It received Gospel Music Association’s Song of the Year Award in 1975.

 On this date in 1980, a version of the song by Christy Lane topped the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
