TYLER — On June 9, 2020, Bettye Greeney, dedicated Mother, Granny, and friend to many, passed away at the age of 85.
Bettye was born September 2, 1934 in Hubbard, Texas to Carl and Lois Dykes. After a few years in Dallas the family relocated to East Texas in 1945. Bettye was a graduate of Tyler High School.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy D. Greeney, in 1995; her parents, Carl and Lois Dykes; and her siblings, Harold Dykes, Tommy Dykes, Jackie Dykes, and Joyce Jobe.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Deb and Jeff Williams; her son and daughter-in-law, Glen and Marian Greeney; her granddaughters, whom she treasured and are known as “Granny’s Three Girls,” Chelsea (Jason) Perrin, Ashley (Zack) Wavrusa, and Whitney (Blake) DeNoyer; her great-grandchildren, Leighton Perrin, Ellis Perrin, William Wavrusa, and Elizabeth Wavrusa; and her sister-in-law, Billie Dykes.
Bettye was a devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church, where she served as the financial secretary and Sunday School teacher of the Theos Class for many years.
The family would like to thank the members of the Theos Class, who have faithfully shown their love over the years. She was blessed with many dear friends who visited and called her regularly and she cherished the visits and time spent with them. She was known for her deep faith, sense of humor and quick wit.
Pallbearers will be Jason Perrin, Zack Wavrusa, Blake DeNoyer, James Rakestraw, James Arrant, and Jerry Rhodes. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Theos Sunday School class.
Services will be held Friday, June 12, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, Hwy. 64E with a private burial following at Williams Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to service.
