Hundreds of small businesses will make up a unique marketplace set to open up in a 35,900-square-foot retail space in Tyler.
Painted Tree Boutiques announced it has executed a lease with Tyler Broadway/Centennial LP to take up a space at 8970 S. Broadway Ave. in the south part of the city. The location was formerly occupied by big box store Bed Bath & Beyond, which closed last year after the incorporated company filed for bankruptcy.
Painted Tree is a one-stop shop for gifts, decor, fashion and more — “an Etsy marketplace and Pinterest catalog come to life,” its website states. The company calls its concept a “big way to shop small,” as hundreds of local small businesses will occupy the stores 300-plus spaces. Each space varies in size and provides local, hard-working creatives and entrepreneurs and small business owners with a convenient retail spot to share their curated products.
Painted Tree began in 2015, and since then, its business model has provided a unique retail experience for boutique owners and customers by housing hundreds of shops under one roof.
“From the shop owners to the staff, everyone at Painted Tree Boutiques fosters togetherness,” the company’s website states. “It’s about supporting local entrepreneurs and giving the local community a treasure trove of delightful things.”
The Tyler location will be the 14th Painted Tree Boutiques in Texas and the 52nd store across the United States.
“Painted Tree Boutiques eagerly looks forward to joining the Tyler community and providing local entrepreneurs, creatives, and dreamers with a space to come together and share their craft with the city,” the company said in a press release.
The location already has temporary signage up at its storefront located in The Village at Cumberland Park, and work is set to begin soon. The opening date is expected to be in November, the store said Oct. 15 in a Facebook post .
The store is still accepting vendors.
Vendors can select their space before the store opens to the public, which will ensure most of the store is rented by opening day, ready for shoppers to enjoy perusing all the different products. Applications will still be accepted after opening, but if the store is full, applicants will be placed on a waiting list, the company said. Anyone interested in applying can do so by going online to paintedtree.com/vendors, calling (844) 762-3342, or emailing sales@paintedtree.com .
The company said although there are some shop owners who are in every Painted Tree location, the stores are predominantly rented by local shop owners, “creating a unique shopping experience at every Painted Tree location.”
Painted Tree does not place restrictions on the genre of items that shop owners sell; however, the company says it reserves the right to turn down items that could be considered inappropriate. Some items that are not accepted include used clothing, weapons, and sexually explicit products.
“This allows for a community of creative shops and an unique experience at each location,” the company said in a statement to the Tyler Morning Telegraph. “Our Sales and Customer Service teams can provide more insight to those who are looking to apply but are unsure if their product will be accepted.”
The price of spaces varies based on a few different factors. Once shop owners apply online, they will be able to access the store map to view available spaces and costs.
The company says it offers many benefits for shop owners, including hosting special events to drive traffic to the store. Additionally, the company collects and pays each owner’s sales tax, pays the store’s bills such as water, electric and property insurance, provides a vendor portal for shop owners to view sales and add inventory along with barcode labels, doesn’t require shop owners to work at the store, provides professional marketing to help promote shop owners’ products, and more.
The store will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
