- Arch Manning
For the second consecutive week, a Longhorn quarterback put up big numbers in front of a huge crowd.
Last week, it was Quinn Ewers in the Texas 31-12 victory over Michigan before 111,170 fans at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
This week, it was backup QB Arch Manning in the Longhorns 56-7 win over UTSA before 101,892 fans at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin.
Both signal callers were named The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week.
Cindy Smoak, executive director of SPORTyler, announced on Tuesday that Manning is the Week 3 winner. Ewers was the Week 2 winner.
Manning, after entering the game for an injured Ewers in the second quarter against UTSA, completed 9-of-12 pass attempts for 223 yards and four touchdowns. Manning also had a 67-yard touchdown run.
Manning’s 75-yard touchdown pass tied for seventh-longest by a UT freshman and his 67-yard touchdown run was the longest ever by a UT freshman. This marked the first time in UT history that a player recorded a 65-yard-plus pass and run in the same game. Manning’s five (four passing and one rushing) touchdowns on the night are the most touchdowns accounted for by a UT freshman quarterback since Colt McCoy had six passing against Baylor on Oct. 14, 2006.
After entering the game, Manning tossed a 19-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver DeAndre Moore Jr. to extend UT’s lead to 21-0. Manning hit WR Isaiah Bond for a 51-yard touchdown to open the third quarter followed by a 75-yarder to WR Ryan Wingo with 10:57 remaining in the third. To cap the night, Manning found WR Johntay Cook II for 12 yards in the end zone, stretching the lead to 49-7 with 13:19 left in the fourth.
Manning is a graduate of Isidore Newman High School in New Orleans, Louisiana.
In addition to being tabbed the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week, Manning was also selected to the Davey O’Brien Great 8 list and earned SEC Co-Freshman of the Week on Monday.
Manning and the Longhorns return to Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium to meet Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday in Austin. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. (TV: ESPN+, SECN+; Radio: KTBB 97.5-FM).
ULM is quarterbacked by former Tyler Junior College standout General Booty.
The Week 1 winner was Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty.

The finalists will be brought to Tyler for The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Banquet scheduled for Jan. 22, 2025.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award was announced in 2012 by the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce and SPORTyler.
“We are fortunate to have a celebrity who exhibits the impeccable virtues that define this award,” Smoak said. “In addition to being a well-known sports figure, Earl also earned a college degree, married his high school sweetheart, raised two successful sons and still supports the community where he grew up.”
Campbell graduated from John Tyler High School in Tyler before joining the Texas Longhorns under legendary Coach Darrell K Royal. In his senior year for Texas, he led the nation with 1,744 yards rushing and 19 touchdowns, going on to win the Longhorns’ first Heisman Trophy.
He was subsequently drafted by the Houston Oilers where he won Rookie of the Year honors in 1978 and went on to lead the NFL in rushing three times. Campbell earned NFL MVP in 1979 and was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1991. He now resides in Austin.
“All my life, all I wanted to do was be an athlete,” Campbell said. “I kept God in my life and surrounded myself with good people. I am humbled by this award named in my honor.”
