Unoccupied building collapse in downtown Rusk.

An unoccupied building collapsed shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday in downtown Rusk, next to the J & P Kwik Stop.

Rusk police and fire departments, along with the Texas Department of Transportation, found that the roof of the building at 112 W. 6th St. had fallen in, causing a wall of bricks to topple into a nearby parking lot and pulling the front awning loose from the side walls of the building.

The awning and front wall eventually crumbled and fell onto U.S. 84, and the TxDot  then removed the debris.

The building, owned by a private citizen, will be demolished.
