Tyler EDC announces new leadership roles
The Tyler Economic Development Council (TEDC) has appointed Mary Alice Guidry as its new Senior Vice President, effective Sept. 30. Guidry will oversee TEDC’s business development and marketing initiatives, as well as manage and expand its real estate portfolio.
She will succeed Victor Valle, who is moving to a role with Oncor’s economic development team.
Guidry has most recently served as the Chief Executive Officer for local nonprofit Habitat for Humanity of Smith County. She is a registered architect with nine years of experience as a Senior Project Manager with Fitzpatrick Architects, Inc.
“We are very excited to welcome Mary Alice to our team,” said Scott Martinez, TEDC President and CEO. “With Mary Alice, TEDC got someone that has a strong technical background in development. As TEDC develops more real estate assets, her skills in project management and architecture make her well suited for this position. She has been very involved in the community and understands the unique needs of Tyler, as well as the unprecedented growth we are experiencing. TEDC recruited her with confidence she will be impactful in this position.”
Guidry is a graduate of Leadership Tyler Core Class 30 and currently serves on the boards of directors for Heart of Tyler and the City of Tyler Main Street Program. She is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University, where she earned her undergraduate and master’s degrees in architecture.
“As CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Smith County, my role allowed me to passionately serve our community in a positive way,” Guidry said. “This humbling and thrilling opportunity with Tyler Economic Development Council will allow me to do so in a greater capacity, driving growth, fostering collaboration, and enhancing economic vitality for the good of our city and our citizens.”
“I am grateful to use my skills and God-given gifts to build on the impact TEDC has had for the last 35 years,” Guidry said, “and I look forward to working with Scott and our team to further progress for our wonderful city.”
TEDC has also selected Tara Hays as its new Director of Industry and Workforce Initiatives.
In this role, which will also begin on Sept. 30, Hays will spearhead TEDC’s efforts to nurture and expand Tyler’s thriving industrial sector. Her responsibilities will include developing strategic programs, fostering collaborative partnerships, and working with local partners to ensure a robust pipeline of talent to meet the needs of local businesses.
“Tyler has a very solid and growing industry base that employs thousands of our neighbors. TEDC is committed to serving our local industries and having a member of the TEDC team dedicated to local industry will greatly enhance our economic development efforts,” said Martinez. “TEDC recruited Tara for this new position because of her strong industry relationships and her record as a high performing professional.”
The addition of this new position comes at a time of significant expansion for Tyler’s industrial sector. Since 2020, local industries have announced over $400 million in projects in Smith County, demonstrating the community’s attractiveness as a prime investment destination.
“I look forward to joining the Tyler Economic Development Council team,” Hays said. “My work with local industry over the past six years has solidified my passion for Tyler’s growth. I’m eager to support local industry and contribute to our community’s continued economic development success.”
