LONE OAK — Jett Taylor rushed for 127 yards and two touchdowns as he paced Grand Saline to a 28-7 victory over Lone Oak in a battle of unbeatens at Buffalo Stadium on Friday night.

The Indians all but clinched the District 9-3A Division II crown with the win over Lone Oak as they firmly sit in the driver’s seat with head-to-head wins over Lone Oak and Edgewood, which are the only other teams in the district with just one loss.

Grand Saline (8-0 overall, 4-0 in district) took the opening kick and quickly drove into Lone Oak territory and the Indians struck first when Kolton Prox received the pitch on fourth-and-3 and out ran everyone down the right side for a 28-yard touchdown to make the score 7-0.

Lone Oak (3-1, 7-1) responded with a drive into Grand Saline territory, but were turned away when Jett Taylor stepped in front of a receiver for an interception at the 7 yard-line.

Both teams traded possessions then Grand Saline popped a big play, pinned back at their own 12 yard-line when Jett Taylor found a seam and sprinted for an 88-yard touchdown to give the Indians a 13-0 lead late in the first quarter.

Lone Oak struggled to get anything going offensively in the first half as the Indians forced 3 interceptions and held the Buffaloes to just 40 total yards of offense in the first half. Prox came up with two interceptions, including an over-the-shoulder pick just before halftime.

Lone Oak forced a fumble and recovered it at the Grand Saline 29 yard-line and the Buffaloes cashed it in for a score two plays later when backup quarterback Wyatt Marker reeled off a 29-yard touchdown to cut the deficit, 13-7, midway through the third quarter.

Both teams traded possessions throughout the third quarter in a defensive game that turned into a back-and-forth, knock-down drag out with each team delivering big blows.

Lone Oak took over at their 11-yard line, midway through the fourth quarter with a chance to take their first lead of the contest, but the Grand Saline defense forced a three-and-out and the Indians took over at their 48 yard-line, holding a slim 13-7 lead.

Grand Saline created some distance from Lone Oak on the first play of the drive when Taylor busted through the line for a 52-yard touchdown run to give the Indians a 21-7 lead with 5:19 left in the game.

The Indians defense didn’t let up as they forced Lone Oak into a turnover on downs then Grand Saline delivered the dagger when Colt Boyd scored on a 7-yard run to make the score, 28-7 late in the fourth quarter.

Grand Saline looks to remain perfect on the season next week when they host Prairiland, while Lone Oak looks to rebound from their first loss of the season as they travel to Harmony.
