Donald Trump Jr. flew into East Texas on Tuesday evening for a private campaign fundraiser for his father’s presidential campaign.
About 200 people attended the event at the East Texas Regional Airport in Longview, where Trump Jr. spoke for roughly 30 minutes before taking pictures with attendees, Gregg County Judge Bill Stoudt said Wednesday.
The event was hosted by Kim R. Smith, owner of KRS Jet Center.
The event wasn’t publicized locally. But on Oct. 4, Utsav Sanduja — founder of the newly created “Hindus for America First” pro-Trump organization — announced on Twitter that the event would take place.
The cost to attend the event ranged between $10,000 and $50,000 per couple, according to a registration website for the fundraiser.
Stoudt attended the event to introduce U.S. Rep. Nathaniel Moran, R-Tyler, who introduced Trump Jr.
Trump Jr. flew via private jet from Dallas Love Field and arrived in Longview around 6 p.m. He flew back to Dallas around 7:30 p.m.
An employee at KRS Jet Center referred the News-Journal to Stoudt for comment Wednesday.
Tuesday wasn’t the first time Trump Jr. campaigned for his father in Longview. He flew into Longview in 2016 for another fundraiser hosted by Smith at the airport. That event raised roughly $500,000, the News-Journal reported.
Trump Jr. on Tuesday spoke about the differences between his father and Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris, Stoudt said.
Stoudt said he didn’t know how much money was raised during the event, but “I think they did pretty well.”
Stoudt said he supports Trump because Trump’s policies are in line with the values of East Texans. Like other East Texans, he’s concerned about the direction in which the country is heading.
“This is probably one of the more important elections our country has ever seen,” he said. “East Texas has always been at the forefront of conservative, Republican values.”
